Why Randal Kolo Muani Could Be the Perfect Fit for Tottenham

New horizons for Parisian Randal Kolo Muani

Tottenham Hotspur signed Randal Kolo Muani on a transfer deadline day season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain. With pedigree, pace, and power, the Frenchman is an exciting coup for the North London side.

A Rising Star: His Career to Date

Born in Bondy, Randal Kolo Muani played for several Parisian teams before joining the Nantes academy system in 2015. He received his first call-up to the side on 12th February 2017, before making his debut on the 30th November 2018. During his time at the club, Kolo Muani quickly evolved from a promising prospect to a key first-team player. He became known for his speed, awareness, and knack for scoring crucial goals.

His impressive performances earned Kolo Muani international attention, as he traded the Stade de la Beaujoire for the Waldstadion in a move to Eintracht Frankfurt. It was in the 2022/23 Bundesliga campaign that Kolo Muani enjoyed his breakthrough season, with 15 goals and 11 assists under Oliver Glasner. With freedom and space across the front line in a 3-4-2-1 setup, Kolo Muani flourished.

In the summer of 2023, Randal Kolo Muani joined Paris Saint-Germain in a move worth £76.4m. Muani failed to live up to his big-money move in an underwhelming first season for the French giants.

On January 23rd 2025, the striker joined Juventus: enjoying a superb start to life in Italy. He netted on his debut against Napoli, before scoring two braces in his following two matches.

Following a successful spell in Italy in which Kolo Muani scored 10 goals in 22 matches, the Frenchman is now set to trade The Old Lady for N17.

Footballing Pedigree

At just 26 years old, Kolo Muani has already earned 31 caps for the French national team, scoring 9 goals. A mainstay in the 2022 World Cup, he scored in the semi-final against Morocco and registered an assist in the final against Argentina.

During his time at Paris Saint-Germain, the Frenchman notched 11 goals to help the club secure the treble, winning the Ligue 1, Coupe de France and Champions League.

Upon joining Tottenham, manager Thomas Frank spoke highly of Kolo Muani's footballing calibre. "Randal is a quality player who has proven himself over a number of years, playing for big teams in the Champions League and also with good experience for the France national team," he said.

Versatile Cover Across the Front-Line

Tottenham had been linked to several left wingers late in the window, but it appeared that priorities shifted. With the absence of Dominic Solanke due to injury, Tottenham made a last-minute overnight move to sign Randal Kolo Muani.

Though a striker by nature, Muani's versatility is undoubtedly something that will have appealed to Spurs. He brings a unique blend of speed, agility and technical prowess which enables him to play effectively as a striker, or across either wing.

His adaptability makes him an ideal option in the 9, where he can run in behind or find space in the box. At the same time, his dynamic pace and one-on-one ability make him an effective option out wide. While predominantly featuring as a striker for Frankfurt and Paris Saint-Germain, Kolo Muani is adept at playing off the left, and has played right wing several times for France.

A Seamless Fit to Thomas Frank's Tottenham

Having never played in the Premier League, fans should certainly give Kolo Muani time to adapt. However, he already possesses traits that suit the fast and physical nature of English football. Despite his slim stature, Kolo Muani is strong, powerful and can certainly cope with the Premier League's intensity.

Against low blocks, Muani's aerial dominance could be key to unlocking defences. Against higher defensive lines, Muani has the pace and intelligent movement in behind which will offer Tottenham a dangerous attacking outlet.

Whether it be coming to feet to take on his man or going long to run in behind defences, Kolo Muani offers Thomas Frank the kind of versatility that makes him an ideal fit. His ability to pivot across the front line fluidly gives Tottenham an extra dimension in attack.

We've already seen Tottenham shift systems dependent on the opponent. For example, switching between his preferred 4-3-3 to a 5-3-2 against PSG, where his side appeared structured, resolute and well organised in their attacking press.

Dynamic, versatile, powerful: Kolo Muani could be the spark to ignite Tottenham's attack.
